April 14, 2010 - Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that KEVIN DAVIS, 39, of Putnam, was sentenced today by Chief United States District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 46 months of imprisonment, followed by seven years of supervised release, for possessing child pornography.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on April 18, 2008, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents performed a court-authorized search of DAVIS’ residence and seized a desktop computer, a thumb drive, and related computer components. Subsequent analysis of the computer’s hard drive and thumb drive revealed the existence of more than 300 images of child pornography, including images of children under the age of 12 engaged in sexual conduct. The images, which DAVIS had downloaded from the Internet, were forensically recovered from the freespace on the computer or thumb drive, which is where the images were stored after DAVIS had viewed and deleted them.
DAVIS has been incarcerated since he pleaded guilty to the offense on July 7, 2009.
This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Connecticut, Florida, and Maryland. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul H. McConnell.
This prosecution is part of the United States Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
