Red Shirt Man Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact

April 8, 2010 - United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Red Shirt, South Dakota man convicted of abusive sexual contact was sentenced on April 5, 2010, by Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Charles Little Bear, a/k/a Dale Little Bear, age 43, was sentenced to two terms of 24 months' imprisonment, to be served consecutively, for a total of 48 months' imprisonment; 30 years of supervised release; a $750 fine; and a $200 victim assessment. Little Bear was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 23, 2008. Following a December 17, 2009, jury trial, Little Bear was found guilty of engaging in sexual acts with a girl under the age of 16 between September 2005 and January 2006. This case was investigated by the FBI and BIA. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mara M. Kohn tried the jury trial, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Vargo prosecuted the case through sentencing. Little Bear was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
